It’s generally a good idea to send a “Thank You” follow up after an interview! If you interviewed with multiple people, a follow up can help you stand out in the crowd. In your thank you note, be brief and cordial. Here’s an example:
Hello _________, Thank you for taking the time to tell me about Company. I really enjoyed learning about X, Y, Z. Talk soon!
Try to avoid:
Giving an additional piece of information that should’ve been covered in the interview, such as “Oh and when you asked about my degree, I also minored in <blank>”
Being apologetic, such as “I’m sorry I was so nervous!”
Being presumptuous, such as “I’m sure we’ll be working together soon!”
You might be feeling nervous, but overcompensating with confidence or anxiety will make it worse. Most interviewers expect college students to be nervous and occasionally stumble. Try not to draw attention to it! Usually, it’s worse in your head than it actually was.
One last thing— make sure you spell the interviewer’s name correctly. Misspelling their name can make you seem careless and perfunctory.
